The Ministry of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has released mining production statistics for the first half of 2023. The statistics concerning the diamond sector. The ministry notes that 3.841 million carats of diamonds were produced in the first half of 2023.
During the period under review, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) produced 3.841 million carats of diamonds, of which 2.969 million carats were mined artisanally (77%), 871.287 million carats were mined industrially (22.68%) and 1.022 million carats were mined semi-industrially (0.03%).
Industrial production by Société Anhui Congo d’Investissement Minier (SACIM) produced 854.623 million carats, or 98%, and Minière de Bakwanga (MIBA) 16.664 million carats, or 2%. Artisanal production comes from the following provinces Kasaï-Oriental: 2.849 million carats, or 96%; Kasaï-Central: 59,431 carats, or 2%; Sankuru: 546.20 carats, or 0.02%; Kasaï: 49,664 carats, or 2%; Kwango: 8,524 carats, or 0.3%; Tshopo: 729 carats, or 0.02%; Kwilu: 1,140 carats, or 0.04%. A total of 2.969 million carats.
As for exports in the first half of 2023, the DRC achieved sales of USD 41.930 million, broken down as follows: artisanal mining: USD 33.889 million; industrial mining: USD 8.040 million.
