The 5th edition of the West African Mining Week (Semaine des Activités minières d’Afrique de l’Ouest – SAMAO) will be held from 28 to 30 September 2023 at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre. This year’s theme is: “Mining in Africa: what strategy for impacting the development of local economies?”.
B2B meetings, exhibitions, panel discussions and visits to a mining site and a tourist or quarry site are all on the programme for this 5th edition.
Aimé Aristide Zongo, a geology and mining engineer and environmental expert, will be the General Moderator of SAMAO 2023. He has extensive experience in the mining sector. He has a degree in industrial chemistry with a specialisation in the development of mineral resources from the Mining Institute in Marrakech and an expert diploma in the exploration and development of mineral resources from Nancy. He also holds a Master’s degree in environmental quality management. He began his career at the Mines and Geology Office (Bureau des Mines et de la Géologie – BUMIGEB) as a minerallurgist before managing its mineral processing laboratory. He was promoted to Director General of BUMIGEB before being called to the government as Minister Delegate in charge of Mines and Quarries in Burkina Faso.
