0

From 2 to 4 October 2023, the town of Nouadhibou in Mauritania will be hosting a “training workshop for members of civil society organisations, the media and local elected representatives on advocacy tools for mining taxation, social auditing, environmental protection and information and communication tools”.

The inaugural panel

It is being organised as part of a project aimed at strengthening mechanisms for dialogue and consultation, to enable citizens to participate more effectively in the management of mining revenues. The project is being implemented by the Mauritanian government in partnership with the UNDP and USAID.

A view of the participants

Many presentations are planned, including civil society’s experience of transparency in the mining sector, mining taxation, social auditing, contract negotiation, environmental impact assessments, and communication and advocacy tools. There will also be experience-sharing sessions from Senegal and Burkina Faso.
