The 4th ordinary session of the EITI-BF Steering Committee was held in Ouagadougou on 07 November 2023. It was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries and Vice-Chairman of the EITI-BF Steering Committee, Jean Baptiste Kaboré.
The members of the EITI-BF Steering Committee held their 4th ordinary session on Tuesday 7 November 2023 in Ouagadougou. The agenda included the presentation of the EITI-BF 2021 report and the scoping report for the EITI-BF 2022 report presented by the independent administrator in charge of drafting the EITI 2021 report, Adrien Somda, according to a press release posted by EITI-BF on its Facebook page.
The EITI 2021 report covers the fiscal year 2021 and the revenues recovered by the State as well as the payments made by mining companies from 1st January to December 2021.
The report notes that Burkina Faso will produce 67.13 tonnes of industrial and artisanal gold, and that the extractive sector will generate net revenues of 383.50 billion by 2021. It should be noted that this sector also contributes 2% to employment and 79.02% to exports.
With regard to the scope of the 2022 report, the committee members agreed that the materiality threshold should be 800 million FCFA and that 18 mining companies, including one state-owned company, should be included in the reconciliation scope of the EITI 2022 report. Particular emphasis was placed on the inclusion of financial and non-financial information in the 2022 report.
Amendments were made to both reports and they were adopted unanimously, subject to the amendments being taken into account. Following these amendments, which conditioned the adoption of the said reports, discussions took place mainly on the disaggregation of jobs by gender. This led to the production of a reconciliation table and the reasons why certain companies had not paid dividends.
