The aim of a conference held in Ouagadougou on Thursday 09 November 2023 was to equip economic players with the tools needed to digitalise goods traffic. Organised by the sixth group of students in the 3rd year of the Master’s programme in Supply Chain and Purchasing Management, the conference brought together a wide range of people from the world of transport and logistics.

The conference, the 3rd of its kind, was held under the theme: “Digitalising the transit of goods: challenges and opportunities for supply chain players in Burkina Faso”. According to Hayaro Tuama, spokesman for the sixth group of students, the organisers of the conference, the event is part of an educational framework and will provide an opportunity to assess some of the students’ faculties. “Organising this conference is part of our training, and is a requirement for the master’s degree. It is graded and will be used to assess the learners’ ability to communicate and mobilise”, he stressed.

The panellists at this educational conference were Noël Kaboré, Director of the Archives and Documentation, Study and Monitoring Unit of the Burkinabe Shippers’ Council (Coneil Burkinabè des Chargeurs – CBC), Sandaogo Abel Kabré, Customs Inspector, Head of the Transit Monitoring Office, and Elie Sawadogo, Director of Economic Platforms and Facilitation at the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They each addressed a sub-theme, in particular international trade, the transit of goods through customs, and the challenges and opportunities for players in the supply chain in Burkina Faso. According to Hayaro Tuama, the development of the sub-themes will provide participants with tools for digitalising the transit of goods.

The participants in this conference include players in the Burkinabe economy, in particular companies, logistics students, transporters, customs declarants and the various public administrations involved in the transport chain. The sixth group of students in the 3rd year of the Master’s programme specialising in Supply Chain and Purchasing Management are hopeful that, after this conference, they will be able to take part in the modernisation of international trade.
