The 4th edition of the Mining Supplier Days (JFM) will be held on 06 and 07 December 2023 under the theme: “Issues and challenges of local content governance in the mining sector in Burkina Faso?”. The organising body, the Burkina Faso Alliance of Mining Goods and Services Suppliers (Alliance Burkinabé des Fournisseurs de Biens et Services miniers – ABSM), held a press briefing on 18 November 2023 to update the public on the state of preparations. During this press briefing, the ABSM discussed the timetable and the major innovations of the 2023 edition of the JFM.
On 06 and 07 December 2023, Ouagadougou will host the 2023 edition of the Mining Supplier Days (Journées du fournisseur minier – JFM), organised by the ABSM. According to Noël Ouédraogo, the ABSM’s communications officer, the 48 hours of the event will see a number of important activities on the agenda, with the aim of improving the content of the event. These activities include panels on the sub-themes of the central theme “Issues and challenges of local content governance in the mining sector in Burkina Faso?”, B-to-B meetings and exhibitions of mining goods and services. The panoply of activities planned for this year’s event should, he says, give players a chance to get to grips with the realities of the sector.
The general aim of this new edition is to find solutions that will enable Burkina Faso suppliers to obtain contracts with the extractive industries operating in Burkina Faso.
It will also be an opportunity for the ABSM’s top executives to review the state of implementation of local content in the mining sector following the adoption of the texts, to present the difficulties encountered by mining companies in supplying goods and services with national suppliers, and to identify prospects.
The event will bring together around 500 participants.
In terms of innovations for the 2023 edition of the JFM, the president of the ABSM, Yves Zongo, noted a mentoring session for students to help them make better choices of courses that should facilitate their professional integration. At the closing ceremony, awards will be presented to the model mine in terms of local consumption of goods and services, the best bank in terms of support and adapted products, and two national champions in the supply of goods and services.
Yves Zongo says that for this year’s event, the ABSM has invited Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea and Mali to share their experience of local content models in their countries. At the same time, he pointed out that there are plans to organise sub-regional days for suppliers of mining goods and services.
As a reminder, the Burkina Faso Alliance of Mining Goods and Services Suppliers (Alliance des Fournisseurs Burkinabè de Bien et Service – ABSM) is a non-political association of mining supply professionals, and was the leader in enabling the entire population of Burkina Faso to make the most of the manna of opportunities offered by the mining industries.
