Patrick Downey, Chairman and CEO of the Orezone Bomboré S.A. mining company, has confirmed that the mine will be expanded with the construction of a new plant. This confirmation was made to the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Simon-Pierre Boussim, during a hearing on Monday 4 December 2023.
Accompanied by his Managing Director, Ousséni Derra, Patrick Downey informed the Minister of his company’s situation, according to a press release issued by the Communications Department of the Ministry of Mines. According to Orezone’s CEO, the mine’s activities are in good shape, with his team made up of 100% Burkinabè nationals. “We are working hard to expand Orezone Bomboré S.A. and bring more resources to Burkina Faso,” he said.
The Orezone Bomboré S.A. mining company is located in the commune of Mogtédo, Ganzourgou province, Central Plateau region. It is owned by the Canadian company Orezone Gold.
On 24 November 2023, Orezone Gold Corporation announced that it had filed with the national authorities of Burkina Faso the technical report for the Phase II expansion study of its Bomboré mine in Burkina Faso. The technical report was prepared for Orezone by the staff of Lycopodium Mineral Canada Ltd. and other qualified industry consultants.
The company’s Phase II expansion project involves building a 4.4 million tonne per annum ore plant operating in parallel with the existing first plant to significantly increase annual gold production at a low capital cost. Construction of the new plant will enable Bomboré to produce an average of 209,000 ounces of gold per year at a cost of 1,121 dollars per ounce for more than 08 years. The first gold production from phase II of the expansion is scheduled for the third trimester.
