Iamgold Essakane SA is holding the 12th edition of its Health, Safety and Environment Days (JSSE 2023) to celebrate and raise awareness among its workers of the standards and principles of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). At the opening ceremony, held on Thursday 14 December 2023, Tidiane Barry, Managing Director of Iamgold Essakane SA, congratulated his colleagues and invited them to commit to “zero incidents” in their activities. The theme of this year’s event is “A safe and healthy workplace: A commitment to the health and well-being of our employees”.

For Tidiane Barry, CEO of Iamgold Essakane SA, these Health-Safety-Environment (HSE) days are “annual activities aimed at taking stock of our prevention activities and innovations in Health Safety Environment in order to draw the best perspectives to further improve the health and safety of our employees and partners”. In terms of performance, Tidiane Barry reports that during the first half of 2023, IamgoldEssakane SA did not record a single lost-time incident. This represents “5 million working hours without a loss of time due to a work-related injury”, added the CEO of Essakane SA. This performance confirms the CEO’s view that all work-related incidents are avoidable.

In terms of innovations for this 12th day, he noted the inclusion of testimonies from victims of work-related accidents, social art, mega MBAs and blood donation sessions. Adama Ouédraogo, chairman of the JSSE 2023 organising committee, said the days would be held from 14 to 16 December 2023 in Ouagadougou and on the site. According to him, during these 72 hours: “Employees, management teams, subcontractors and visitors will be made aware of health, safety at work and environmental protection”. Participants in this 12th edition of IamgoldEssakane SA’s JSSE will also benefit from a screening campaign for hepatitis B and C and HIV/AIDS, as well as awareness-raising sessions promoting best practice in health and safety and environmental management.
