After Gogo, the Association of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina Faso (Association des Femmes du secteur minier du Burkina – AFEMIB) will be in the Bagassi commune from 19 to 22 December 2023 as part of its “Research-Action-Participation” (RAP) workshops to draw up action plans for women and young people in mining communes.

The aim of the AFEMIB will be to build the capacity of 35 people, including 15 women, 15 young representatives of civil society organisations and 5 resource persons representing community leaders, social action, the Roxgold mine and the special delegation, in identifying structuring activities eligible for the mining local development fund (LDMF). At the end of this stage, scheduled for 22 December 2023, the participants are expected to draw up an action plan that should be taken into account in the local development plans (plans communaux de développement – PCD) by the relevant authorities. This action plan should increase the representation of young people and women in the PCDs.

In his opening address, Issouf Ouédraogo, President of the special delegation of the Bagassi commune, invited the participants to engage in frank and effective discussions with a view to making Bagassi an exemplary and developed commune. He also recalled the efforts and initiatives taken by the communal authorities to use the fund through the LDMF communal monitoring committee, which is intended to be inclusive.
