Almost 72 hours (19 December 2023) after the fire at the Kaloum hydrocarbon depot in Conakry, the government has updated the list of people affected and cared for. It has also reviewed some of the measures taken in the early hours of the incident. These measures include the supply of diesel to the public throughout Guinea from Wednesday 20 December 2023.

In a press release published on 19 December 2023, the Guinean government updated the list of people treated following the explosion at the Kaloun oil depot. It notes that 212 people have been treated in health facilities. The press release states that of the 212 cases treated, 127 have returned to their families, while 85 people are still in hospital, including 4 in intensive care. However, there have been 4 new deaths, bringing the total to 18. The National Agency for Emergency Management and Humanitarian Disasters (Agence nationale de Gestion d’Urgence et des Catastrophes humanitaires – ANGUCH) has provisionally counted 738 households in the districts of Coronthie 1 and 2. Tombo and Almamya.

In the light of developments and the fact that the situation is under control, the Guinean government has taken a number of measures to ease the measures taken since Monday. The press release focuses on 5 measures, including the supply of diesel to the public only from Wednesday 20 December 2023 throughout the country, the authorisation of minimum service in public and private administrations in the municipality of Kaloum and the recommendation to wear masks in the municipality of Kaloun.

However, the press release maintains the restrictions on tanker traffic and the ban on public access to the area affected by the incident, for safety and investigation reasons, with the exception of specialist services.
