On Thursday 28 December 2023, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries recognised the merit of 117 of its agents and partners who distinguished themselves through their dedication and determination in the performance of their duties during the year 2023. These were the words of Yacouba Zabre Gouba, Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries.
Of the 117 recipients, 09 have been awarded the Ordre de l’Etalon and 19 the Ordre du Mérite burkinabè. As for specific awards, 30 received the “Mines and Quarries” clasp and 59 the “Energy” clasp.

According to Yacouba Zabre Gouba, the minister in charge of mines, these medals are not awarded out of complacency, but are a testimony to the commitment and self-sacrifice to work of all those involved in the energy, mines and quarries sector. “You deserve these distinctive badges that you will soon be wearing. They are the fruit of your efforts, and you should be proud of them; proud of having done your duty well, proud of having done useful work for the nation, which recognises you at your true worth”, he said.
He also urged the recipients to always keep on course, as they are now sources of motivation and examples for many. “You are now a source of inspiration not only for those of your generation, but also and above all for young people. Keep the torch high and continue to earn the nation’s gratitude every day,” said Yacouba Zabre Gouba. He concluded his speech by inviting the recipients to be more self-sacrificing in their work.

Following him, the recipients unanimously acknowledged that this distinction is far from being a consecration, but a call for greater commitment. “It’s a feeling of satisfaction for all the effort we’ve had to put in,” says Leïla Zerbo/Sambaré, an agent at the National Agency for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. She also says that this distinction is an invitation to greater self-sacrifice and better results: “It’s also an invitation for us to do better, to serve the country better”, she confides. After more than 11 years of service, Leïla Zerbo/ Sambaré still hopes to be able to serve Burkina Faso better by giving her best in carrying out the tasks mainly assigned to her.
