On Friday 12 January 2024, the Minister for Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, was granted an audience with the World Bank’s Senior Energy Specialist, Régina Nessiama Mille. The large-scale solar project was at the heart of the discussions.

The World Bank’s Senior Energy Specialist, Régina Nessiama Miller, took advantage of the meeting to provide an update on the activities of the Large-Scale Solar Energy and Rural Electrification (SOLEER) project, which is involved in the energy sector, particularly in terms of production, transmission and distribution.

According to her, the discussions enabled the challenges to be discussed and ways and means found to move the project forward and improve people’s access to electricity.

As a reminder, the large-scale solar power and rural electrification project will generate 325 MWp of power once completed. Costing around 93 billion FCFA, it will provide solar electricity to 300 localities and at least 12,000 new households, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
