Mining Indaba is the flagship event for promoting long-term investment in Africa’s mining sector. It attracts a wide range of key stakeholders, including industry professionals, policy makers and stakeholders from across the country and beyond, to promote economic growth and foster positive change in the mining industry.
The 2024 conference aims to celebrate Mining Indaba’s 30th anniversary with a new direction and focus. The theme, “Embracing the Power of Positive Disruption: A Bold New Future for African Mining”, reflects the goal of finding solutions and pathways to positive change in the mining industry. It highlights the need for the African mining industry to find a solution and a pathway to positive change in order to become a significant global competitor, as key minerals are needed to ensure a sustainable future for the planet.
The highly anticipated main stage talks, entitled ‘Voices of Disruption’, will feature speakers from Africa’s leading mining companies and associations, explaining how they are bringing positive change and disruption to the industry, the country and the continent. Speakers include Duncan Wanblad, CEO of Anglo American, Sinead Kaufman, CEO of Rio Tinto Minerals, Mzila Mthenjane, CEO of Minerals Council South Africa, Benedikt Sobotka, CEO of Eurasian Resources Group, Neal Froneman, CEO of Sibanye-Stillwater, and Mark Bristow, CEO of Barrick Gold Corporation.
International investors and governments, including those from the United States, Europe, Saudi Arabia, India and other countries, will be well represented and will support their common goals of helping to develop Africa’s critical mineral industries. Importantly, our conversations will focus on how Africa can best use its minerals while contributing to global needs. “It is well known that Africa’s critical mineral resources are large but largely untapped, offering significant opportunities to accelerate the development of Africa and, by association, its economies and communities. Critical minerals are currently attracting the most interest and investment in the mining industry, and will be at the heart of much of the discussion we will be hosting,” said Laura Cornish, Content Manager for Investing in African Mining Indaba.
