On 24 January 2024, the collective of Houndé Gold staff representatives issued an update on the crisis at Houndé Gold. The group comprises representatives of workers at the Houndé mine and subcontractors.
Minesactu.info has obtained a copy of this clarifying statement. It states that since 21 January 2024, Houndé Gold workers and those of subcontractors have been working to re-establish dialogue so that operations can resume.
However, the college wishes to open discussions with another representative of the mine and with other components of Endevaour mining, apart from the current Managing Director Adama Savadogo. This decision was taken after meetings with the local authorities, the labour inspectorate and the delegation from the Ministry of Mines.
“The workers have never given up on any negotiations, but regret that the situation has been reduced to a 7-day-a-week rotation”, because the Managing Director “has declared himself incompetent to deal with the grievances of the workers and his subcontractors”.
However, in a memo dated 23 January 2023, the same Managing Director stated that Endeavour had given him “responsibility for leading discussions with all mine personnel and facilitating discussions with its contractors. I pledge to you that I will act in the best interests of HGO and the values of the Endeavour Group”. A case to follow.
