The Canadian company Orezone Gold Corporation “is pleased to provide the results of the fourth quarter 2022 and annual production of its Bomboré gold mine in Burkina Faso,” says a release issued in Vancouver on 10 January 2023. The Orezone Bomboré mine is located on the Ouaga-Fada axis, in the Ganzourgou province, commune of Mogtédo.

Orezone Bomboré reached commercial production on 1 December 2022 following the restart of plant operations at the end of October and the increase in daily throughput in November.
Out of a gold production of 22,258 ounces, approximately 692.319 kilograms in the 4th quarter of 2022, production in December alone was estimated at 12,975 ounces (403.574 kg), or 58.30% of production. The conversation of the ounce in kg was made by the newspaper on the basis of an ounce of gold at 31.104 grams.
The company’s processing capacity was 806,875 tonnes in the 4th quarter of 2022, of which 458,954 tonnes were in December 2022. This December 2022 performance was due to “the rapid ramp-up of plant production with December throughput 4% above design capacity of 14,250 tonnes per day,” the release said. A record throughput of 17,120 tonnes per day, 20% above nominal capacity, was achieved on 25 December 2022. Orezone adds that “the plant’s recovery rates are exceeding expectations, averaging 92%”.
On the commercial side, sales of 24,676 ounces of gold at an average realised price of 1,760 US dollars per ounce generated revenues of 43.4 million US dollars (approximately 26.474 billion FCFA at 610 FCFA per dollar).
Patrick Downey, President and CEO, said: “The Bomboré operations delivered a solid quarter of gold production, highlighted by an exceptional December. The plant has been running steadily since reliable feed was obtained in November and continues to show an upward trend in daily throughput, which has continued into January 2023. The strong operating performance in the fourth quarter generated significant free cash flow for the period, enabling the company to meet its debt service obligations and significantly improve its financial position at year end. We look forward to providing annual guidance for 2023 and further details on this year’s milestones later this month.”
As a reminder, on 5 January 2022, Orezone announced the appointments of Rob Henderson as Vice President of Technical Services and Kevin MacKenzie as Vice President of Corporate Development and Investor Relations. Rob is a recognized mining executive with extensive global operations and development experience, including in West Africa as Vice President of Technical Services for Kinross Gold. Rob will lead Orezone’s technical teams, ensuring continued operational excellence, and provide technical and management leadership as we move Bomboré through the planned major sulphide expansion.
