The Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Jean Pierre Boussim, informs mining promoters who request the suspension of mining titles due to insecurity “that due to the absence of a legal basis in the matter, the said requests are classified without follow-up”. This announcement was made in a release dated 22 December 2022. The same release specifies ‘that the texts in force offer them the possibility of requesting the renunciation of their mining titles’. For Jean Pierre Boussim, requests for the suspension of industrial exploitation permits for large and small mines whose legal regime is governed by the mining code and mining conventions are not concerned by the terms of the release.

Read the full release: In recent years, the Mining Administration has witnessed a significant increase in requests for the suspension of mining titles due to insecurity. It must therefore respond to these requests while remaining in strict compliance with the regulations in force. To do this, it is brought to the attention of mining promoters who have submitted requests for suspension of their mining titles due to insecurity, that due to the absence of a legal basis in this matter, the said requests are closed without follow-up and that the texts in force offer them the possibility of requesting the renunciation of their mining titles. It also informs them that applications of the same nature are no longer admissible as of the date of signature of this release. However, the terms of the release do not concern requests for the suspension of industrial exploitation permits for large and small mines, the legal regime for which is governed by the mining code and the mining conventions.
