Appointed by the Council of Ministers on Friday 10 March 2023, Jean Baptiste Kaboré is the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries. He replaces Moïse Ouédraogo in this position.
Academically, Jean Baptiste Kaboré holds a Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures Spécialisées (DESS) in finance from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He also holds two masters degrees, including a master’s degree in accounting-control-auditing, from the Institut burkinabè des Arts et des Métiers (IBAM) of the Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo and another master’s degree in project management from the Institut universitaire de Formation Initiale et Continue (IUFIC) of the Université Thomas Sankara.
Professionally, he held several senior positions before his recent appointment as Secretary General.
Indeed, Jean Baptiste Kaboré has assumed the post of Director General of the Promotion of the Energy and Mining Economy (DGPEEM) since April 2021 at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries. A position he held until his appointment. He was also Technical Advisor, Chargé de mission of the Minister in charge of Energy, General Manager of the Electrification Development Fund (FDE), Financial and Accounting Director (DFC) of the National Electricity Company of Burkina (SONABEL).
The new Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries has sat on several boards of directors, including that of the Agence burkinabè des Investissements (ABI), the mining company Houndé Gold Operations. Since April 2020, he has been a director representing the Ministry of Energy on the board of the National Centre for Scientific and Technological Research (CNRST) of Burkina Faso.
