On 17 May 2023, Togo took an important step in the development of its mining sector. The country has signed a partnership agreement with the British company Keras Ressources PLC, which specialises in manganese exploration and mining. The aim of the partnership is to exploit the Nayega project, which is located in the north of the country and has significant potential, estimated at several million tonnes of manganese.

The announcement was made in a press release relayed by several Togolese media.

Mila Aziable, Minister Delegate to the President of the Republic of Togo in charge of Energy and Mines, said that this partnership was important for Togo. It is a partnership that is the fruit of a transparent and competitive process, and which has complied with international environmental and social responsibility standards. As part of the collaboration with Keras, the Togolese government has acquired intellectual property at a total cost of 1.7 million USD.

Keras will also be putting all its experience to work for the government. This is an opportunity for Togo to boost its attractiveness and competitiveness in the mining sector.

On 05 April 2023, the Togolese government created Togolese Manganese Company (Société Togolaise de Manganèse, STM).

Togo has entered into a strategic partnership with Keras Resources PLC to bring the STM into operation. This company carried out the exploration phase as well as the feasibility studies for the operation.
